Asthma An Incurable Disease – One Of The Biggest Medical Fallacies!

Asthma is often a combination of our current condition as well as our genetic predisposition.  For some lifestyle diseases, genetics plays a smaller role and our daily food and lifestyle habits play a more significant role. However, for some diseases such as asthma, there could be a large genetic component. Healing the genetic predisposition part takes longer than any other simple lifestyle disease and requires a custom tailored approach for an individual according to their genes and body type. Since it takes much longer to heal asthma, a notion prevails that asthma is an incurable disease! The reality is far from this perceived notion as unfortunately most people do not have the correct information for their individual body type and genetics and therefore unable to get the desired results.

Asthma is a curable disease, the primary reason why I wrote the book titled “THE ASTHMA CURE” (published by Penguin in 2018). I anticipate to someday work with doctors in medical retreats and hospitals and hopefully achieve results that irrevocably demonstrate the facets of ancient wisdom on the curability of asthma.

Usually someone afflicted with asthma is so overwhelmed by the symptoms, the degree and frequency of attacks that they have little energy left to dive into the root causes of the problem and start looking for quick fix solutions which more often than not are unsustainable.

Curing asthma is a slow process that calls for patience and so chance of people giving up mid-way is also high. A 1-2 yearlong commitment is often difficult for many people and requires a mindset change. A medical retreat would expectantly provide an enabling environment and support to a group and indeed help many people to overcome many practical glitches in the process of healing asthma. A well-organized medical retreat would also set a good replicable case example to follow.

Healing asthma isn’t rocket science in theory but practically it needs a shift in the way people perceive and think about the disease. It requires more hand holding and daily preparations for an individual or child suffering from this disease.

Essentially what is asthma? There are obstructions in the bronchi and airway passages causing breathlessness and wheezing. Going by the ancient medical wisdom, there is a clear understanding about what foods, yoga postures, breathing techniques and lifestyle practices that help to reduce and eventually remove most of these obstructions.  There are specific foods and lifestyle practices that increase mucous build up in the lungs and there are specific foods that cause inflammation in the body that makes the body more susceptible to attacks. If we remove foods that contribute to the mucous build up as well as inflammation in the body, then a major part of the work to reverse the disease is accomplished.

Food such as dairy, especially cheese, milk and butter is known to contribute to mucous build up in the stomach, digestive tract and lungs. White sugar is also known to contribute to both acid reflux as well as inflammation in the body. These days many people are sensitive to wheat and colours found in packaged or commercial foods or bakery products. Preservatives used in the food industry also deplete the human immune system. Bread, dried baked foods and yeast also affect the health of the gut and lungs. All of these foods contribute to a steady decline in one’s health and amplify the symptoms of those prone to asthma or any lung related health problems.

Reliance on natural organic foods should be a preferred way. As an example, some of the foods that pull out mucous build up and help melt down blockages and obstructions in the bronchi are grains such as amaranth, millets, barley, brown rice,; and vegetables such as white radish, broccoli, leafy greens, leeks, spring onions and lotus stem. Turmeric, black pepper, clove, thyme and certain homemade medicinal concoctions mentioned in my book also help towards restoring immunity and strength. Strong lungs naturally cleanse and detoxify easily. Weak lungs hold onto stagnation and toxins for longer.

So building strength is key to any healing process.
