Sleeping hacks are a trend on the social media these days, where users tape their mouth to get a good night's sleep. Some users have promoted this hack.
A trend known as mouth taping in which some users on the social media are told that covering the mouth with medical tape while sleeping and breathing through the nose promotes sleep. This helps the nose filter out harmful allergens while we sleep.
According to Andrew Wellman, director of Sleep Disorders Breathing Lab in Boston, the nose warms, humidifies, and filters the air you breathe in, which your mouth can't do properly. This moist air lubricates the nose and traps harmful particles with a filtering mesh so they can't get into the lungs. In nasal breathing, nasal nitric oxide is also produced. A gas that can help open blood vessels. Thus, helping to lower blood pressure and improve blood flow.
Can mouth-taping be harmful?
According to Rajkumar Dasgupta, associate program director of the Sleep Medicine Fellowship at the University of Southern California's Keck School of Medicine, this is not the right way to tape your mouth. This can also prove to be dangerous.
No research has been done in this regard, so it cannot be said about sleeping by mouth taping. This can prove to be dangerous. It can create many health issues also.
