How Men’s Sperm Health Affects Wellbeing Of Their Children

Contrary to long-held beliefs about fertility, which place disproportionate blame on women when they are unable to conceive, men also play an essential role in family planning. The health of the man is important for the health of his offspring as the quality of his sperm can have an outcome on the unborn child, since sperm carry important genetic content into the embryo and then into the child's life.

According to recent research, male partners’ health concerns account for over 50 per cent of couples' infertility instances. Male reproductive health may be impacted by a variety of factors, some of which may be congenital (present at birth abnormalities), while others may be learned habits.

Here are some things to focus on

Consumption of unhealthy food: Improper eating habits are a recipe for disaster and are known to produce a variety of health difficulties in the human body, including obesity, diabetes, hypertension, heart disease, and high cholesterol. These disorders have been proven to have a detrimental influence on male fertility.

Tobacco use and consumption: Tobacco consumption and smoking bring hazardous compounds into the body, which are known to affect fertility negatively. They affect the amount of sperm present as well as their mobility and form. These variables have a direct impact on the number and ability of sperm to fertilize an egg. Smoking may also induce sperm DNA fragmentation, resulting in poor embryo quality and a reduced fertility rate. Men planning to have kids should quit smoking at all costs.

Alcohol consumption: Alcohol use has been shown to have a direct relationship with the generation of various sex hormones via influencing glands connected with the reproductive system. Men who want to have children should reduce or give up alcohol well in advance of conception.

Sedentary lifestyle: This is an ever-increasing problem facing us today. A lifestyle consisting of little to no exertion and mobility will bring down our overall fitness and health, including the fertility quality of sperm in men. Taking the necessary steps and building an exercise routine to raise fitness levels and health should be a priority for men who want to start a family.

Wearing tight jeans: Men wearing tight jeans/underwear can lead to urinary tract infections resulting in low sperm count, fungal infection, and testicular cancer due to the restriction in the groin area which increases the temperature of the testicles.

Overuse of electronic devices/laptops: The use of electronic devices for a prolonged period such as mobile phones, computers, and laptops results in exposure to radioactive emissions. These radiations can affect the testes which can also result in low sperm count and sperm motility, where the sperm loses its ability to move along with damage to the hormones and DNA in some cases.

Conclusion

These are some habits that can harm or impact on male reproductive health. Regular health examinations are necessary to detect health issues early on and enable prompt medical intervention. Men with a pre-existing health condition of any kind should make sure to have it under the best possible control with their doctor and make sure they're as fit as they possibly can be. Remember, one cycle of sperm production lasts around 3 months; hence the corrective measures should be put in to place well before planning a pregnancy. This will not only lead to a better reproductive outcome, but the father will also be healthier and be there with them to enjoy life for longer.
