Apart from police officials, Additional Chief Secretary, Home Ministry, SS Prasad and officials of Narcotics Control Bureau are expected at the meet. The objective behind the meet is to bring the required synergy and coordination of efforts among police forces of the northern region for combating the activities for organized gangs and smuggling network active in the region.
The meet expects to draw discussions on important topics like an overview of overall drug scenario, the role of intelligence sharing and coordinated operations, creating an inter-state database of drug smugglers, and effective enforcement of provisions of the NDPS Act.
Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar, is going to be the chief guest of the event and will address the concluding session. In 2018, a joint meeting of chief ministers and police officers of northern states was held in August 2018 on how to effectively deal and eradicate the menace of drugs from society.
Last year’s meeting was attended by Chief Ministers of the state of Punjab, Haryana, Uttarakhand, and Himachal Pradesh and concluded with a decision of setting up a common central secretariat for sharing important data for countering illicit drug trade in north India at Panchkula.
