India Observes 19th National Doctor’s Day

To recognize the importance of doctors in our lives National Doctors’ Day is celebrated on 1st July every year. The day recognizes the valuable contribution of physicians imparting in the lives of individuals and society.   

The central government choose July 1 as Doctor’s day to mark the death anniversary of Dr Bidhan Chandra Roy to pay him tribute for the service he provided to the country. He was an eminent Indian physician, educationist, philanthropist, freedom fighter and politician.   

In some countries, the importance of the day is such that they even observe a holiday acknowledging the importance of doctors in their countries. In India, the day is celebrated by hospitals, doctor groups, and health-related organisation.   

Also, on the day, doctors usually receive cards, red carnation, and celebrate the day with their colleagues and friends while remaining at the most important service for mankind.   

Indian Prime Minister, Narender Modi, on the occasion tweeted, “On #DoctorsDay, I congratulate all hardworking doctors for their round the clock efforts to make our society fit and healthy. No words can do justice to their monumental contribution to public welfare”. Also, while remembering Dr Bidhan Chandra Roy on his death anniversary, Modi wrote, “also pay tributes to Dr BC Roy, a distinguished doctor himself.”
