Smart Bathroom Solutions To Conserve Water For A Better Future

We take water and water supply for granted when in all actuality supply is in high demand with limited resources very little of the Earth’s natural water can be used for human consumption. Water being a finite commodity which, if not managed properly, will result in shortages in the near future and smart bathrooms are the way forward to contribute to water management solutions. Today, bathroom showers and sinks account for approximately 3/4th of the water used in our daily lives, which makes us believe one should start making water conscious decisions while purchasing bathroom products. New ranges in this space like intelligent faucets come with smart functionalities and latest designs, thus making them a great fit for the modern-day bathrooms.

This World Water Day, let’s learn a few tips that will help you prevent water wastage, to conserve the planet’s most valuable resource for a sustainable life.

Tip 1: Take a shower instead of a bath:

While a pleasant bath is good for the soul, this luxury consumes 100 to 200 liters of water, depending on the size of the bath, and every single liter needs to be heated, if it is a hot water bath/warm bath. Showering is considerably more economical, as it consumes 40 to 60 liters on an average. Maybe you could reserve your bath for special relaxing moments, and get yourself a feel-good shower instead. One can also opt for environmentally friendly EcoSmart showers that help to save up to 60 percent of water compared with a conventional shower.

Tip 2: Make smart hot water savings – with CoolStart technology

CoolStart is an innovative technology that allows only cold water to flow when the mixer is turned on in the basic setting. One doesn’t not consume hot water or the energy required for it until he/she intentionally turns the mixer lever to the left. A very sustainable and ecological version of water and energy saving, CoolStart marks an environmentally friendly trend in the world of bathrooms and saves you money at the same time.

Tip 3: Investment in Modern operating technologies: Single lever mixer instead of two handle mixer

While you wait, turning the two handles, for the water to reach the right temperature and the right volume, a lot of it flows unused down the drain. Whereas, modern single lever taps add considerably more convenience to one’s home, the required water volume and temperature can be set much more quickly on these than on two-handle taps. One can easily save time and enjoy added convenience with single lever taps and pretty soon, save more money too.

Tip 4: Water guzzlers - Saving water on a daily basis

In our bathrooms, precious water often disappears down the drain unused – solely because old-fashioned taps or outdated shower systems allow it to drain away. Identifying the biggest guzzlers of water and squanderers of money can help to consciously reduce water consumption on a daily basis. One can do so by timely repairing dripping taps and also taking a note of its water-saving function by using AirPower or Select products.

Tip 5: Limit usage of water for bathroom and WC:

If you leave the water running while brushing your teeth or shaving, you are wasting 5 to 15 litres of water per minute depending on the tap. When cleaning your teeth, one can invest in a toothbrush tumbler, similarly, for wet shaving, just a little water in the basin is enough. For the toilet, it's worth installing a flush/stop button or a dual flush system. Small flushes don't usually require more than 3 litres of water.

Tip 6: Making informed decision while purchasing:

One should always look at the energy efficiency and water-saving functions while making a new purchase for the bathroom. Very old models usually consume significantly more water than new ones, and really need to be taken to the recycling centre. When purchasing a new product, please pay attention to its energy efficiency class. Which appliances save large quantities of water and energy? Make sure that you opt for environmentally friendly models in classes A to A+++. Talking of efficiency: never run washing machines and dishwashers half empty. Only use the machine when it is fully loaded. More often than not, the pre-rinse or prewash program is not necessary. For slightly soiled laundry/dishes, lots of machines have an environmentally friendly short wash cycle.

Embedding these habits in your daily lives will go a long way and will act as a great step towards addressing the most critical issues causing the country’s water crisis.
