What you eat and drink

What you eat and drink affect your ability to focus tremendously. When you are dehydrated your brain becomes foggy and staying focused becomes very difficult. Start by staying properly hydrated. Research shows that your gut health affects your brain tremendously.

Digestive upsets and imbalanced gut bacteria are disruptive no matter what you’re doing. Not only does a weak digestive system make you feel unwell, it also prevents your body from absorbing all the nutrients from your food. So despite your eating well the nutrition that you need to focus, may be of no use.

When you are physically unfit

When you are not feeling well, are sick or just plain exhausted everything becomes tougher. If you are not well rested your mind will wander and focus will be the last thing happening. The sedentary lifestyles that we lead don’t help either. Not getting enough exercise is another common reason you might lose focus quickly.

Too emotional

When you are driven by your emotions, it is bound to affect your ability to focus. If you allow the little voice in your head to take over and start entertaining every thought that pops up, focus goes out of the window.

Seldom do you work in silo, you will always be surrounded with or have to interact with people. So how you feel about your work can make or break your productivity and focus levels. Examining one's self to figure out what triggers emotional reactions and lack of focus is important. Infusing positivity in your life is one of the biggest gifts you can give yourself. Do not entertain every feeling. Constantly keep stepping back and assessing why you are feeling what you are feeling without getting caught up. And let it go.

Easily distracted

The double-edged sword of technology is one of the biggest reasons that lack of focus happens. The constant notifications as you work, the barrage of phone calls, text messages, emails, and social media notifications derail your focus. Distractions are very costly. Each time that notification pops up whether or not you entertain it, your mind is off the track.

Multitasking 

People wear the badge of being champions at multitasking with great pride. But according to research, only 2% of the population is efficient enough to pull it off. What tends to happen is that at some point you leave one task at the cost of the other. Not only does one's focus gets compromised, even times get wasted. The human brain isn’t designed to cognitive shuffling. Examining these areas is a good place to start reclaiming your ability to focus.
