Grand Master Akshar - Founder, Chairman and Course Director, Akshar Yoga. President, World Yoga Organisation feels that for anxiety in these times there is no medicine that can cure it and we go for sedatives or sleeping pills. Those who are suffering from what actually this problem is, know about the panic attacks and palpitations and less sleep which is not allowing them to do anything. “We need to take care of our sleep properly. Once we do that, anxiety can be handled. There is a yogic breathing technique as well for getting sleep. What we can do now is that we can understand the technique of Brahmari Pranayama.” From what he has observed is that people keep their hands over their eyes but there is a system where we have to give pressure to those points. He then went on to show the technique and demonstrated it. When one is happy he or she won’t go into an anxious state. When the person is disturbed then anxiety occurs. “Each one of us have our individual lifestyles based on which we have to adapt to yogic practices. Yoga is certainly very powerful and as per time say and circumstances it can change things and work for any individual. For example, for a high-performance athlete the language of slowdown is different than for a person working in the corporate world, or for a home maker. The power of asana is different, pranayama is different and meditation is also different. How medicine is given, in the same way yoga is given to a person as medicine. Yoga is a very systematic process. Whatever the aim or goal of the practitioner is on that basis yoga is transferred. For children if their school work is tough and life is fast, the yoga is different from that which is given to someone in the office. In that manner planning has to be done and it is done by an expert.”
