To battle stress out of the office, organisations have started conducting wellness programs for their employees. Wellness programs are known to promote mental health as well as the well-being of the employees through activities like yoga, beauty packages, dietary advice, and counselling sessions. Routine health check-ups have also been introduced in these organisations as a part of their health and wellness programs.
These activities usually follow an inclusive approach and include employees irrespective of their age, gender, class, and wage. But finding out the effectiveness of these activities becomes an arduous task for the organization. Issues like employee engagement, improper planning, and precarious alignment of activities often make them inefficient.
Organisations like Wipro, Accenture, and TCS have introduced health and wellness campaigns in their offices across the country. They are providing great moral support to their employees and prevent them from burnout. They also provide programs which help to quit smoking and alcohol dependency among employees.
An employee of a reputed MNC at Gurugram said that her office has several sessions on balancing work and personal life. “One of the sessions is called mind, body, soul, and heart focusses on the different aspects of our personal life and how to improve it so that we can live a stress-free life”, she further added. Also, she expressed that her office has sessions on yoga, healthy living, etc., which she feels are quite effective in reliving in the health and well-being of the employees.
She also feels, “Making these sessions more interactive can lead to increased effectiveness of them. Also, an increase in the frequency of these events can make an actual difference.”
Another employee of a corporation at Noida told that his office has regular health care check-ups at their office. He said, “our company recognizes the importance of health and well-being of the employees and hence conducts regular screening medical tests, counselling sessions from psychologists, and physical activities sessions like desk yoga, sports for all etc., for cutting down obesity and other lifestyle metabolic diseases.”
Recently, organizations like Aeris Communications and Denave have started leveraging employee healthcare and wellness by having a dedicated yoga room along with a full-time yoga expert for their employees within their organization. They make sure that their employees attend regular yoga sessions and need not go anywhere else for the same.
Recently, the World Health Organization (WHO) has recognized burnout as an occupational phenomenon resulting from chronic workplace stress. Health and wellness activities are a great step to battle against it. However, the implementation of these programs, its inclusiveness and interactivity require a little more attention to achieve major employee’s health and well-being goals.
