Pooja Rani Yogapreneur, Vedic Hatha Yoga Teacher said that as yogic practices help a lot, we cannot call them tools as she considers yoga as a holistic approach. There are steps in yoga which must be followed. “These days what is happening is that people are directly jumping into higher practices without doing the basics. That is definitely not the right way as their pranic body is not capable for that level. To allow them to sit for longer hours in meditation is not beneficial because they won’t be able to focus so much as they have jumped levels. They have to open their energy channels which are jumbled as our body has more than 72,000 nadis where there are energy channels which won’t open up due to our diet habits or hectic schedules, not sleeping and waking up on time, which are some of the many things we don’t do correctly. So, these nadis are jumbled and till the nadis are not open, our pranic flow will not allow us to benefit jumping to pranayama without doing asanas for example.” There are stages that have to be followed. It is like a mathematical process and she says that children should be exposed to yoga. Unless and until one’s spine is erect they are not doing the practice correctly. A person new to it can’t sit with their spine erect for more than 5 minutes according to her without it beginning to pain. It takes a lot of practice to sit like that for long.
