The healing power of our mind has fascinated human beings since human civilizations came into being. There is documented evidence to show how people have miraculously recovered from life-threatening diseases by understanding a simple connection - The mind-body matrix..
Even a cursory look at the Indian culture on the mind-body connection would tell you that your physical health is a reflection of your experiences in life. Now there are exceptions to this but the element of human experience cant be ruled in manifesting optimal health.
That's how techniques such as visualisations, reframing, and affirmations have been known to give good results when it comes to successful thinking patterns and creating healthy mindsets.
In a fireside chat with Dr. Annurag Batra, global leading holistic health guru Dr Mickey Mehta talks about healing the mind and harnessing its potency to live your life to the fullest.
Your health could become music for you, should you just let go of the mind
Past memories, toxic moments in relationships can really hurt. Humans have a tendency to ruminate. However, getting stuck in a cycle of repetitive and painful thoughts can prove to be a problem. In reality, the nature of the mind is bliss and freedom. Many meditation gurus call the mind akin to an ocean and thoughts just like a wave in the ocean. So, when the same wave of thoughts keeps repeating in the mind, it clutters the mind and may result in counterproductive behavior.
As Dr Mehta says, Empty your mind and mind your emptiness.
Letting go is an important part of life. In fact, when we are born, letting go becomes an enabler for life. When a baby first comes out of the mother's womb struggles through the vaginal canal, lapping up the amniotic fluid, It first screams and cries that it is letting go. That's the first lesson of life. If you don't let go, you will not be in sync with the rhythm of life.
With a simple breathing technique, Dr Mehta explains the power of our breath in letting go. It is only when you learn the art of letting go that you can truly tap into the potential of your mind and connect with higher intelligence. Ever wondered why is that when your mind is free, past troubles and anxieties of the future, you experience moments of heightened intuition, increased sense of creativity, problem-solving ability, and frequent Aa aah moments (Eureka moments). Why is it so? For starters, clarity in thought has a perk. It makes you more receptive. And when the mind is open to receiving, it becomes conducive to being in sync with the universe.
Nature is the best healer
We deal with moments of sadness even when we are focused and living a purpose-driven life. Often we try our best to get out of the mental clutter but find it difficult to switch to a pleasant state of mind. If you have ever found yourself grappling with a counterproductive mood or felt low even after having your favorite ice cream, Dr Mehta has potent and easy-to-follow advice for you.
Nature is the best healer. One of the modalities of healing is stopping everything that you're doing, and going close to open air. Sunlight, open sky, greens, chirping of the birds, sound, touch, smell. Taste, vision, or shut your eyes. Let go of everything and visualize nature. You will immediately be the disruptor. You will break the pattern of distress and get in the phase of rejuvenation, says Mehta
However, on an intrinsic level, if you still feel burnt out and find it difficult to get into a consistent rhythm, then doing some inner work might help. Finding focus and discipline for what you believe in is the key.
Emphasizing that destiny is an open and flexible concept and that a lot of it depends on our free will, Dr Mehta says,
Destiny certainly is an open phenomenon. Till today, till now, this was my destiny, from here and now I will make my own destiny. We human beings have two legs to walk towards it, hands to make, a mind to perceive it, a heart to believe in it and a consciousness to achieve it.
We human beings have two legs to work towards it, as to make it a mind to perceive it or hard to believe in it and a consciousness to achieve it.
Consistency comes from having the right priorities
An element that plays an integral part in driving yourself to keep striving and growing is the aspect of personal responsibility. Realising and imbibing the fact that you are responsible for the people around you makes a big difference and will help you to keep going. It may be a limited circle of people like your family and close friends. If you are someone running a business, the sphere of responsibility extends to your employees and so on and so forth.
Finding your sense of responsibility towards the right set of people will help you to automatically realign your priorities or find the right ones. Dr. Batra's crisp words towards the end on setting the right priorities made everyone reflect on life's ultimate trade-off. What are you willing to give to your goals in order to accomplish them.
If you want to achieve something, you have to be disciplined and consistent. So it depends on what you want. Life is a trade-off. Right? So it's about your priorities. Consistency comes from having the right priorities, he says.
