With a commitment to the health and well-being of their employees (internally referred to as ‘Newers’), TO THE NEW, a digital technology company introduces “Newers Wellness and Care” program. Due to an increased risk of lifestyle-related health issues, the company has plans to do interventions for both physical and mental well-being as part of this program.
In an interaction with BW BUSINESSWORLD, Satya Sharma, CHRO, TO THE NEW shares how the organisation is implementing employee-friendly practices.
Here are the excerpts -
Q: According to you, what is the definition of the ideal company to work with?
A: We spend a considerable amount of time at work and for me, an ideal workplace is one that takes care of its people and provides a conducive work environment that keeps one motivated to show up every day.
Q: What is Newers Wellness and Care?
A: In today’s workplace milieu, it is imperative to focus on the holistic well-being of your employees. Nowadays, there is a massive increase in the risk of lifestyle-related health issues, therefore, we have planned to do interventions for both the physical and mental well-being of our people.
The "Newers Wellness and Care" program was born out of the intent of making healthcare services easily accessible for our people, to help them maintain a healthy lifestyle, without having to go through the administrative hassles for basic health checks.
Q: What facilities do the employees enjoy under Newers Wellness and Care?
A: We have free OPDs with renowned doctors, from different practices, including a general physician, a gynaecologist, and a dietician, at our workplace. We have also tied up with leading names in the industry like Fortis Healthworld, Jaypee Hospital, Indraprastha Apollo Hospitals, SRL Diagnostics, La Fitness, and Anytime Fitness to extend services at a discounted price.
In addition to this, we organize yoga, meditation, and self-defence workshops and health talks to take care of the overall well-being of our people.
Q: How are you maintaining the work-life balance of your employees?
A: We promote better physical and mental health for our people through our Wellness and Care program. The free OPDs at our workplace eliminates the administrative hassle for basic health checks.
We also have periodic helpdesks for investments and ITR at work to help Newers save time and make it convenient. Practices like flexible timings, provisions for working from home, and adoption leaves are some of how we encourage Newers to maintain a healthy work-life balance.
We have various forums for our people to communicate effectively and provide honest feedback. A dedicated HR point of contact for Newers also helps us identify and highlight any possible cases of burnout.
Q: What suggestions would you like to give to other corporates for introducing employee-friendly practices in their company?
A: Every organization is unique and has a different culture. We would suggest developing customized programs based on the requirements of your audience. The key is to keep it simple and improve based on the feedback.
Q: What are your future plans to incorporate more healthy practices in your organisation?
A: Currently, our focus is on making the existing program more robust and effective. We keep gathering feedback from our people on their needs and based on their inputs, we will continue to innovate and adopt new practices in the future.
