Kolkata Police Campaigns Against Drug Abuse

Anuj Sharma, Police Commissioner of Kolkata posted on Facebook, “June 26th is the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking. Kolkata Police is committed to fighting against the menace of drug and substance abuse that is destroying our youth.”   

In order to participate in the photo competition, Anuj informed that one needs to take a picture while performing any activity like dancing, reading, running, sleeping, singing, playing, studying, writing, laughing etc. Then the photograph needs to be uploaded on social media sites like Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook with the caption “SAY YES TO (the activity that is seen in the picture e.g. reading, running etc); SAY NO TO DRUGS”. The three most innovative photographs will be selected by the Kolkata Police for felicitation.  

While accomplishing achievements of the Kolkata Police against drug trafficking, Anuj wrote, “Since 26th June 2018 the Narcotics section of the Detective Department has seized illegal drugs worth crores of rupees and arrested important peddlers/kingpins from all over India and abroad.”  

Sharma also informed about the Kolkata Police project ‘Shuddhi’ which aims to rehabilitate the lives of individuals who became petty criminals due to drug overdose. He wrote, “under the ‘Shuddhi’ project of Kolkata Police 133 drug addicts who are into petty crimes due to addiction have been sent for rehabilitation, out of which 21 are leading a drug-free life for more than a year. This also means that they are leading a crime-free life.”   

Also, to tackle drug menace in the city, Kolkata Police works with different NGOs compassing against this menace through street plays, seminars and workshops to spread awareness among the masses regarding its destructive potential.
