Plant-Based Foods Might Prevent From Heart Diseases: Study

In a recent study, researchers have shown out that intaking only plant-based foods lead to be a better heart and overall improved health. It also highlighted that the chances of death from heart-related issues reduce significantly while being on a plant-based diet.

The research was conducted with the help of 12,168 mid-age adults for more than three decades. It analysed the eating habits of these individuals at several times during the study. Over the course of the research, around 5,436 individuals died and out of which 1,565 died from cardiovascular disease.

Further, while performing a comparative analysis of the cause of deaths among the participants, individuals with heavier diets involving animal products and refined carbohydrates were 31 per cent more potential to die because of a heart attack. Also, these individuals were more likely to die because of some other disease by 18 to 25 per cent.

In addition to these participants, individuals with less plant-based meals also attracted heart failure or other non-fatal heart attacks or strokes by 16 per cent than individuals on the plant-based diet.

In the initial stages of the study, most of the individuals were quadragenarians and free of any heart-related problems. And over time, the research found out that most of the participants strictly sticking to the plant-based diet were women, white, at least high school graduates, and physically active. Also, incidents of them being obese, smokers or induced high blood pressure or diabetes were less as compared to other individuals.

During the follow-up period, the study also claimed that complete vegetarians or people eating the greatest proportion of healthy plant-based foods were able to decrease the risk of getting heart-related ailments by 16 per cent.

The research published in the Journal of the American Heart Association again highlights the importance of shifting to the plant-based diet for improved heart health and in the prevention of other cardiovascular diseases.
