Self-Love, The Alpha and Omega of Our Spiritual Journey

Shuddhaanandaa Brahmachari

We are eternal seekers and searchers, like the musk deer moving around the forest to find the source of the most enchanting fragrance, only to know at last that the source of fragrance is its own naval. Like the musk deer, we search all over, all the time, consciously or unconsciously, till the biggest miracle happens, that is Self Love; love for the sake of final Union, love for the sake of lower mind merging into Higher Mind, individual self merging into Universal Oneness.

Self-love is not bondage; it is to add wings to the self so that it can fly like a phoenix to reach the ultimate height of divine ecstasy and enlightenment. Self-love is transcendental. Self-love starts with the self and then it crosses all borders, shattering all limitations, and then is face to face with God.

Self love is the alpha and omega of spiritual journey, if understood in its right spirit.

Self Love Is Loving One’s Spirit Soul

Most often self-love is misunderstood or misinterpreted as something of pride and selfishness. Often the question comes that this coinage of the word ‘self-love’ is misleading.

Words are the echo of our inner feelings and a dim expression of our inner passion. Yet we coin words, we express through words, and initially it needs a bit of explanation and then it finds its deeper meaning in the collective psyche of the humanity.

In simple, self-love is loving one’s own Spirit soul. An effort to fathom the depths of mind and realize the innate divinity or peace that each one of us carry as seed within us. When we are enmeshed in the world of names and forms, it is more like we are in love with things outside of us, and they are in a flux of change so eventually we go through the cycles of pains and pleasures. But when we focus our outgoing energies inward through mindful awareness, we discover a space within us that is calm and peaceful. Most amazingly, it is independent of the external situations and circumstances.

Self-love starts with the self and then it crosses all borders, shattering all limitations, and then comes face to face with God. God is our Self, our Higher Self that emanates love, peace, happiness, goodness, compassion, forgiveness, beauty, balance, and harmony.

We need to keep in mind that self-love is not a bondage but liberating. It is you loving You. It is to add wings to the Self so that it can rise like a phoenix to reach the ultimate height of divine ecstasy and enlightenment. Self-love is transcendental.
