In 2017, wellness was at the forefront of people's minds from meditation apps and women only retreat to green beauty products and nootropics, universally underlined with a need to feel better inside out.

This year, big corporations are responding to consumer demand for better personal care products, higher-quality food/organic, and sustainability practices. At the same time, cutting-edge research on intermittent fasting and the microbiome offer promising outlooks for feeling our best and healing disease. DNA mapping and gut health are the new buzz words. With gut health being held responsible for many a mental health ailment.

Staying healthy and fit is nowadays getting difficult due to lifestyle disorders. In a conversation with BW BusinessWorld, Monica Bahl, Sr. VP SCM & Projects VLCC, a homegrown wellness and beauty brand discussed a few wellness trends to look upon for a healthy lifestyle:

Consume more and more of detox water and fiber-rich food to drain out toxins and improve the count of good bacteria. Give your stomach a day’s rest every week with a No-Carb Diet (by avoiding carbohydrates which are commonly found in chapattis, rice, potatoes and other starch intensive food) .

90 Minute Game Plan- Have signed up for gym memberships and then dropped out within 15 days? Felt de-motivated to go to the gym and spend that hardcore 60 minutes sweating out? Aren’t we talking about you? It’s time to switch to the wonderful 90-minute active lifestyle regime, which is “The” New Year Resolution for 2018. No need to sweat that one hour in the gym. Plan adopting an active lifestyle by incorporating one hour of cardio, which can be done in 2-3 breaks of 20 to 30 mins each by doing activities like walking, jogging, running, swimming, etc. Spend 15 minutes in strengthening and relaxing your muscles by doing stretches, crunches, weight training, etc. The last 15 minutes of this regime can be spent doing daily chores like using stairs instead of a lift, drying clothes, strolling post meals, etc.

Fitness Apps and Interactive Diet Plans- Let technology map your activity and fitness graph. Fitness Apps are the new rage for tracking daily activity rate and suitably adopt diet plans. Nutrition experts and dieticians are fast adopting technology to recommend daily diet charts. These apps help clients interact with their experts and dynamically alter their diet charts in case they have a cheat meal, thus facilitating calorie management.

DNA Wellness- With the increasing intervention of science in our daily lifestyle, one should try scientific weight-loss techniques like the use of DNA data. If the traditional methods fail to obtain desired results, one can look into his/her DNA for solving weight-loss issues. Today, there are ways to arrive at weight-loss solution after analysing DNA to decipher as how one’s fat cells respond. Eventually, a DNA-based diet and exercise plan are charted out.
