Your Mind Is Your Physicality

The simple science of Yoga has been changing and transforming lives since times immemorial. Regular practitioners will testify about the physical, mental and spiritual benefits Yoga brings. Ancient yogic science is much more than a combination of random physical movements. It is a path that leads to abundant wellbeing, self-discovery and holistic freedom.

In a fireside chat with Uday Pratap Singh, Assistant Editor, News X at the BW Wellbeing World Conference, Mr Advait Yogbhushan, Sacred Sciences Teacher and Founder & Director Swamarpan Foundation shed light on the aspects of healing and enlightenment through the simple yet rewarding medium of Yoga. 

A life-threatening accident can be debilitating. For many, adversities can close doors, but, for some, it can open arrays to a new life and new way of being. Crippled with 46 percent body paralysis Mr, Yogbhushan’s recovery is a testament to the potential India’s traditional but scientific system possesses to refuel and illuminate our life.

We have often heard motivational gurus say that our physical system is not as important when compared to the power of the mind. During his talk, Yogbhushan shared his view on the fallacy of mind vs physical parallels that are drawn up these days. Presenting an argument layered with a scientific approach, Yogbhushan says, one who said that physical is not that important is absolutely wrong. Your mind is your physicality. Your central nervous system is totally dependent on your peripheral nervous system. The imprints you are getting on your body are currently going through your brain and then how your brain is working and processes them becomes your Samskara. 

Mental stress and depression can go away with time but a physical disability or deformity remains with you. If we come to think of it, humans are constantly feeding their minds through physical senses. And if the physical element is taken out, the concept of ‘rest’ wouldn't have existed.

There is no way to forget the past

It is often said that humans are prisoners of their own mind. Take for instance, the example of meditation. The basic idea of meditating is to declutter your monkey mind from the constant inner chatter so that one nurtures the ability to mindfully and consciously choose their thoughts.

The question of recovering from thoughts and past memories often comes up during public discourses on mental and emotional wellbeing. While proven techniques like cognitive behavioral therapy, reframing and affirmations have found acceptance Mr Yogbhushan touched upon the core of the phenomena.  

He says, there is no way to forget the past. There is no way to eradicate the memories out of your cells and out of your genes or out of the brain. Once you have done whatever, you will remember it for your whole life. 

The only solution to get out of the muzzle of past impressions that are not benefiting our way of being is by getting in alignment. And restoring the physical alignment of the body is of paramount importance in rejuvenating the balance of the mind.

Enlightenment made easy

A popular question that pops up during a gathering of spiritual and lifestyle gurus is the one on understanding the concept of enlightenment. Is 10 hours of meditation needed every day to achieve an ounce of enlightenment or there is more to it. 

Is the maze of enlightenment as complex to unravel as it seems or is there a quicker way to progress in this direction.

Well, putting a Ardhviraam on the complexities surrounding the seemingly elusive idea of enlightenment, Mr Yogbhushan believes in keeping it real and simple. In his opinion, enlightenment means that you are sorted in life. He explains it further by a fitting example of the world class Football superstar Ronaldo. He says Ronaldo is enlightened in Football. 

For Yogbhushan, starting on the path of enlightenment is not as complex as it is made to look like. If an individual has mastered his subject and stream, he is enlightened. As long as the person likes what he does, he does not need to worry about the spiritual notions of enlightenment Yogbhushan says.

Before concluding his enlightening talk, he demystified the idea of meditation and implored everyone to remove the distractions of life that move them away from the purpose of their life. For him, the very essence of wellbeing lies in our ability to get bothered mentally, physically and emotionally by what life throws at us.

His Mantra for life rang a bell with everyone and received resounding applause. It was an applause filled with realisation and a promise to co create a better existence for all.
