“There Is A Major Shift While Addressing Climate Mitigation” - Smt. Sita Raiter

Sita Raiter helps support the endeavour of educating girls from Maharashtra to study in the United States. “I learnt about the work going on at the Eco Village for climate change mitigation. I was at a conference where I heard about the multiple ways that this village is addressing all of the sustainable development goals in a small way that have potential application at scale,” she said. She also said that she had met people all through Mumbai to talk about how to solve the water and irrigation problems, small technological advancements taking place there to get the best solutions.

She also stated that, “I have heard of similar solutions to waste management over here, so I am really excited to join you all today to see how this model of fruitful discussions about new technologies and smart solutions can potentially start in this community and potentially be expanded at scale.” Moving on she stated briefly that, “Only yesterday I learnt that President Biden announced a new executive order for environmental justice. It guarantees access to clean water and food, as a right. The poor in the United States are disproportionately affected by pesticides and chemicals in the food and in our ecosystem. It is an interesting time.”

She spoke about new technologies and smart solutions in an engaging and interesting manner. She also said that even though she is not an agriculture specialist, generally and very broadly the work they do at the Consulate (in climate) is working to advance the US –India strategic clean energy partnership so that both the countries can meet their climate mitigation goals.
