Building Resilient Workplaces

This article describes how employer branding champions mental health

In today’s fast-paced work environment where attrition is the greatest threat, mental health has rapidly evolved into a focal concern for organisations wanting to hire and retain the best talent. Employees are not just after a paycheck anymore, but rather look to be associated with companies which care for their welfare.

A firm's marketing as an employer is bottom up in nurturing workplaces where psychological disabilities are cared for at all levels.

New directions in the emphasis on mental health

Companies are starting to undertake radical approaches that most people thought radical and almost impossible to accomplish. Here are a few developments that influence the emphasis on mental health within a firm:

Mental health days: Many organisations provide a long list of leaves which include but are not limited to religious holidays, sick leave and personal leave among others but many now formally recognise a mental health leave on which an employee can be absent from work to rejuvenate himself away from work and stress.

Wellness programs: Sip offers maternity leave to its female employees and allows them to attend yoga classes for a few hours during the daytime. Such initiatives help firms to recruit motivated individuals who later do not complain of being fatigued.

Open conversations: Many firms do not encourage employees to freely express their opinions about the firm's democratic structure and decide that such discussions should remain within the upper echelons of management, while others, however, leave it up to the employees’ discretion and encourage discussion as a normal part of their daily working life with the belief that the company's health has such discussions.

Digital support tools: Apps designed to alleviate stress will help with this as they are designed to help individuals understand when they are stressed and how to reduce or get rid of that stress. Other stress relieving initiatives are free gym memberships and meditation classes.
