Electric Mobility For Wellbeing

With India becoming more conscious of the harmful implications of greenhouse emissions and climate change, conventional fuel-driven vehicles are been quickly replaced by electric vehicles, a greener alternative. EVs typically cause zero tailpipe emissions and are adept at converting nearly 60 per cent of the electrical energy from the grid to run its wheels. On the other hand, vehicles run by petrol and diesel can convert only 17-21 per cent of the energy, leading to waste of around 80 per cent. In addition, the carbon emission of conventional vehicles is nearly three times more than an average EV, underscoring the environmental advantage of using electric vehicles. Needless to say, the environmental aspects are directly responsible for promoting positive change in air quality and public health, influencing the well-being of the community.

Reduces Tailpipe Emissions

EVs can prove effective in reducing one’s carbon footprint, as the vehicles do not necessarily contribute to greenhouse gas emissions or air pollution. They do not generate any tailpipe emissions, making them a cleaner option. With more charging infrastructure backed by renewable energy coming into operation, the need to generate power for EVs through fossil fuel will be eliminated.

The government is already working on its ambitious goal of generating 40 per cent of electric power installed capacity from non-fossil fuel-backed energy sources by 2030. Furthermore, with more conscious EV riders opting for renewable energy options for their home electricity requirements, the impact of charging EVs will be addressed effectively.

Combats Greenhouse Gas Emissions

Data shared by IEA stated that India’s transport contributes nearly 12% to our country’s CO2 emissions, making it a major factor in causing urban air pollution. Since EVs are designed not to generate any emissions when in operation, they could help mitigate the impact of climate change.

An accelerated rate of EV adoption across the country and abroad will help advance global efforts to tackle greenhouse emissions and combat climate change. In addition, more organized efforts supported by the government and industry leaders to encourage the masses to switch to EVs powered by clean energy resources can help reduce our carbon footprint.

Promotes Health and Wellbeing

The benefits of e-mobility extend beyond the environment and could help uplift the overall health and well-being of the community. We have already established that vehicle emissions are among the major air pollutants today, and several studies from time to time have found that prolonged exposure to them can trigger various health hazards and diseases. For instance, air pollution from conventional vehicles emits harmful pollutants, including carbon monoxide and nitrogen oxides, which degrade air quality and often trigger concerns like respiratory illnesses, cardiovascular disorders, and cancer. By switching from traditional vehicles to EVs, the community can help reduce the volumes of harmful pollutants released into the air. Such a change can help improve air quality and promote overall well-being.

Tackles Noise Pollution Concerns

EVs do not feature an engine under their hood, so the vehicles typically function without making any jarring noise. In fact, EVs are known to be so silent that manufacturers often have to add a false sound as a safety feature to alert pedestrians of their presence. This trait of silent operation works great in an urban setup, where both air and noise pollution are at their highest limit. In other words, if more individuals consciously choose EVs over traditional vehicles, the level of noise pollution in cities and towns will be reduced to a great extent, making the place pleasant to live, work, and unwind. It will particularly benefit those who suffer from cardiac disorders and hypertension.

Electric vehicles are a potent solution to ensuring environmental sustainability and promoting public health and well-being, as they can help mitigate the challenges of emissions. With more efforts on developing eco-friendly power generation systems, advancements in emission control technologies, and support from the government, EVs can help promote healthy air quality and support well-being. Besides the environmental and health benefits, EVs can offer long-term economic benefits for their adopters. For instance, electric vehicles, including two-wheelers, require less maintenance and lower operating costs, making them a practical choice for rural and urban dwellers.
