Hemp-oil based products: Effective alternatives to traditional medications

Before the advent of modern medicine, humans relied on the medicinal properties of herbs to cure and provide relief. Hemp in particular - a variety of the Cannabis Sativa plant - has been hailed as a wondrous natural medicine for centuries. Realising the immense potential of this herb, a few companies have taken the lead in launching hemp-oil based products in India. Relying on in-depth research and development, under an experienced team of doctors and pharmacists, these companies promise medicinal hemp products rich in synergistic cannabinoids (CBD) that are completely non-toxic. Hempstrol, a socially conscious hemp company producing numerous sustainable products derived from therapeutic hemp oil, is a leader in this space.

Deepika Sharma, Co-Founder and Managing Director of Hempstrol, explains their vision by saying, “we are working to build a creditable hemp industry in India at par with global standards. Our products are carefully formulated using the latest technology and best oil extraction process. We select only high quality hemp plants from the slopes of the Rocky Mountains in Colorado, and use a combination of methods to extract pure hemp oil.”

Over the last few years, medical research has proven that CBD or hemp-oil works well as an alternative treatment to serious diseases such as epilepsy, cancer, osteoarthritis, psoriasis, anxiety with disturbed sleep, and hand tremors. The CBD products available on the market these days range from Full Spectrum CBD Oil, CBD Skin and Pain Management Balms and CBD Capsules. Interestingly, even pets can enjoy the benefits of specially formulated CBD products.

Aromatherapy products that use hemp-oil as their base, have proven to be most popular with customers. These products are highly effective for menstrual cramp relief as well, providing women a solution for period cramps, without resorting to pharmaceutical drugs that often have harmful side effects. “Hemp Seed Oil is a supercarrier oil with numerous benefits. Replete with Magnesium, it is great for women who suffer from acute symptoms of premenstrual syndrome such as bloating. The Gamma-Limonic Acid present in this oil, regulates body balance hormones thus reducing cramping and pain during menstruation,” shares Sharma.

Other areas that hemp-oil products target effectively include hair care, unexplained and severe migraines, as well as post-workout recovery from pain, swelling, stiff muscles and joint pains. An added advantage of these products, is their affordability as opposed to costly medications.

The biggest challenge for hemp-oil product companies at present, is making people aware of the medicinal properties of the hemp plant, as opposed to its psychotropic ones. “It became important for us to make people understand that CBD is a compound found both in a Marijuana Plant and Industrial Hemp Plant. However, the government of India allows legal trade of only CBD derived from an Industrial Hemp Plant with less than 0.3% THC. The government has been very supportive of the CBD Industry and have motivated start-up founders like me to take on the health sector of India as per global standards,” asserts Sharma.

Sharma’s company Hempstrol, was able to overcome these challenges by consistently spreading the message through word of mouth and the support of doctors and physicians who believed in the quality of their products. She shares, "It is a great feeling when a father who has been administering CBD to his 5-year-old daughter with epileptic seizure syndrome, calls and tells my pharmacist that he has never seen his daughter this happy, and able to enjoy a normal childhood playing and laughing with her friends."

The growing popularity of her products have spurred Sharma on to expand into the cultivation of hemp through industrial hemp farming. With an exciting range of products lined up in the fields of health and beauty, hemp-oil based products manufactured in India, are on track to effectively represent our country on the global market.
