A recent study conducted by a team of researchers from Patna-based Government Ayurvedic College and Hospital has provided promising insights into managing diabetes within 14 days. By combining a healthy lifestyle, dietary adjustments, and specialized herbal formulations, such as BGR-34, the study successfully demonstrated the potential to control blood sugar levels in diabetic patients.
Published in the International Ayurvedic Medical Journal (IAMJ), the study was led by Assistant Professor Prabhas Chandra Pathak. The patient, who initially presented with high blood sugar levels, underwent a comprehensive treatment plan that included research-based traditional medicines, cholesterol-reducing drugs, lifestyle modifications, and a specific diet for two weeks.
After 14 days, the treatment approach was slightly adjusted. During this time, the patient exhibited significant improvements, with the blood sugar level dropping from 254 mg/dl at admission to 124 mg/dl. Notably, the herbal formulation BGR-34, containing Daruharidra, Giloe, Vijaysar, Gudmar, Methi, and Majishtha, showed anti-diabetic properties, contributing to the reduction in blood sugar levels.
BGR-34 was prepared by the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), a premier research institute in India, after extensive research. Sanchit Sharma, Executive Director of Aimil Pharmaceuticals, the manufacturer of BGR-34, highlighted the significance of the study, emphasizing that diabetic patients often rely on lifelong medications. Additionally, these herbal preparations have elements that can boost immunity and antioxidant levels.
Throughout the study, the patient was recommended to engage in an hour of daily walking, which contributed to the effectiveness of the treatment plan. Fasting sugar levels reduced from 254 mg/dl to 124 mg/dl, and post-breakfast sugar levels decreased from 413 to 154 mg/dl. These outcomes indicate a substantial reduction in blood sugar levels.
Encouraged by the positive results of this treatment approach, the researchers are advocating for a comprehensive, large-scale study to further assess its effectiveness. Previous research conducted at AIIMS Delhi also revealed that BGR-34 is effective not only in reducing sugar levels but also in addressing obesity. As World Diabetes Day approaches on November 14, these findings hold promise for individuals grappling with diabetes, offering hope for a more holistic approach to managing the condition.
