How Does Employee Wellbeing Impact Business Productivity?

One of the biggest factors affecting the success of any business is their employees. Employees are the most important customers of any organisation and are also the main functioning unit of any organisation.

Successful organisations know this and always focus on taking care of their staff and employee wellbeing. When we talk about “Wellness”, we often forget that wellness isn’t just limited to the physical and mental aspects of health, but also includes emotional, occupational, psychological, and social wellness along with other aspects. Earlier when we used to talk about Employee wellbeing, we majorly used to focus on physical and mental wellness, but the idea has now evolved.

In today’s busy work schedules, many employees feel like they do not have enough time for themselves, their family, and their loved ones while also facing frequent burnouts. It is also obvious that people who are stressed out, tired, burned out, and are not “satisfied” with their job and workplace won’t perform well at work.

“It is very important to take care of employees' well-being as they are the backbone of any business. Employees who are well are more efficient and more effective in their work and thus, can contribute more to a business. When employees feel valued, inspired, and motivated, they do more work without the ill impacts of those employees who don't feel well.”, said Keshav Jindal, Chief Human Resources Officer at WhizCo- a leading influencer marketing and creator management agency.

He further explained, “If an employee is “well”, it keeps them motivated, energetic, and productive, and makes them happier. Their creativity and problem-solving skills will increase, and they will feel more motivated toward work. Moreover, improved employee well-being also translates to decreased absenteeism and high employee morale. All of these benefits ultimately lead to better business productivity and increase the company's profitability and efficiency. Just by investing more in employee wellbeing, a business can benefit both professionally and financially in the long run.”

But, employee well-being isn’t just limited to a good paycheck and more annual leaves. “Sometimes, the employee well-being of an organisation is affected negatively by other factors. It can be due to unmanageable workloads, toxic work cultures, unfair treatment, unreasonable time pressures, and more. Thus, it is important to first identify the factor that is negatively impacting the employee wellbeing of your organisation, and then work accordingly. What worked for some organisation and the well-being of its employees may or may not work for the well-being of your employees.”, added Keshav Jindal.

By building better working environments, working towards improving employee satisfaction, promoting fair treatment, maintaining a reasonable workload, and focusing more on employee wellbeing, we can surely have a positive impact on business productivity.

As organisations and businesses grow and broaden their evaluation strategies, they must invest and focus more on employee wellbeing and incorporate relevant strategies or programs that can improve the social, financial, spiritual, physical, and mental well-being of their employees.
