Saumya Lohia, Co-founder, of Ekaanta Wellness in Haridwar, recently delivered a captivating keynote. Her talk, titled ‘Live Well, Lead Well,’ challenged the audience to redefine leadership through the lens of focus on wellness. Lohia said that true leadership is not about compromising personal well-being for professional success, but rather achieving a balance that allows for both.
Lohia shared her own experience transitioning from a high-pressure investment banking career to a path focused on mindful leadership. She emphasised the importance of self-discovery, stating that, “Only when we are able to pause are we able to rejuvenate our bodies and our minds. And once we are able to rejuvenate our bodies and our minds, we are able to discover ourselves.”
Ekaanta, Lohia explained, is a unique leadership development centre that emphasises experiential learning. Their programs are designed to be sustainable, offering participants practical tools and techniques they can integrate into their daily lives. Examples include micro-yoga sessions focused on core movements and ‘forest walking’ (Shindren Yoku) which teaches participants to connect with nature for grounding and stress reduction.
Lohia also highlighted the power of nature to enhance focus and creativity. She pointed to scientific research and the growing adoption of practices like Yoga Nidra, an ancient meditation technique used by the US Army to help veterans with PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder).
The importance of building trust and fostering teamwork was another key theme in Lohia's address. She described how Ekaanta's setting nestled beside the Ganges River, fosters a sense of purpose and clarity during group meetings.
She concluded by emphasising the importance of a balanced and nutritious diet for optimal leadership. “Right nutrition can enhance mental illness, alertness and decision-making capabilities,” she added.
Saumya Lohia's message at the BW Festival of Wellbeing Summit and Awards was very clear: prioritising well-being is not a sign of weakness, but a necessity for effective leadership. Also, by embracing a holistic approach to health and self-discovery, leaders can achieve greater success, both personally and professionally.
