In order to take part in the rewarding initiative, the citizens need to inform the authorities about the circulation and consumption of poisonous drugs like heroin and cocaine in Punjab. The release also proposed to reward the cops and officials who conduct successful investigations and confiscate the people involved in illicit drug trafficking. The policy also stated that the government officials will be eligible for 50 per cent of the maximum reward mentioned in the policy.
This step is taken by the Special Group on Drugs (SGOD) because of the serious abuse of drugs like opium and cocaine in the state. The Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh instructed the police department to issue a policy and an immediate action was taken by the police chief proposing the plan on Sunday. The idea was laid on the foundation of US campaign, “See Something, Say Something” which instructed the citizens to inform and report any suspicious activity to their local law enforcement.
Drug abuse has always been an issue in Punjab and the State Government has faced immense criticism because of their continuous failure of ensuring successful prosecution against the drug supply chain in Punjab. Therefore, a previous attempt was also made by conducting a motorbike rally to create awareness against drug addiction in Amritsar.
