Total Wellness

Many times when I am asked about fitness, what starts as losing weight or getting a toned body ends up into a much deeper conversation about inner peace, happiness, and being in the state of contentment – this is what I call total wellness.

We live in a visual world and far too often we are so preoccupied about that part of our ‘self’ that is visible on the exterior that we forget it’s connected to our mind and soul. Very often the lopsided pursuit of that the external means we fail to achieve total wellness. Here lies the contradiction if we manage to strike harmony and balance that true wellness represents, we will be more than happy with the ‘exterior’ the world can see.

Wellness is a far more complete and holistic concept that covers all areas of health: mental health, emotional health, physical health, spiritual health, social health, relationship health, symbolizes the perfect balance between mind, body and spirit is crucial for real quality of life..  Sounds complicated? It really isn’t if you go deeper into it’s meaning.

The body, mind and soul work as an eco-system interconnecting energy, matter and senses. We connect our body, mind and soul to keep energy flowing within us. This energy flow can be abundant or restricted; depending on our 'state of being' in each moment and it changes constantly, and is influenced by our conscious action and thoughts.  We can achieve True wellness when these are in balance and harmony

So essentially, "wellness" covers the overall "well-being" or "health of a being" from mind, body to spirit. This makes "fitness" only a component of wellness: it is only a part of the whole. So how can one achieve this true wellness in practical terms ?

For most parts, I focus on the physical aspect of self, I help people to move better and without resistance while restoring and unlocking their full body potential. This benefits them in terms of their appearance, comfort and confidence. Just think about this - how much of your energy is wasted if you are in a state of physical discomfort or how much your reactions may change and be effected when you are dealing with pain, the same goes with stress levels or personal and family problems. To achieve complete wellness, it doesn’t mean to be indifferent your environment and circumstances, on the contrary it means to be an active participant and to respond (not react) to the situations as they arise creating temporarily imbalance as your attention will be required in that  segment, but then not dwelling in that space too long but returning in the (neutral) state or a state of balance. This goes for everything, your family, work, stress. The mistake most people make is they stay in the imbalanced state thinking that going back to the balanced state is not an option, regardless they spend there. This is the main reason of many related issues. I know this may sound contradictory or you may feel as if I am pointing fingers while not fully understanding your current situation and circumstances, and I do not know the details of the particular issues you are dealing with, however from the holistic and total wellness point of view, the key in restoring the balance which sometimes may also mean finding the peace and acceptance within prolonged storms. Simply put, if the work stress is ongoing and it keeps on occupying every part of your life and brings additional stress and imbalance into your life, maybe you should consider changing the work environment, and if that is not possible, then creating the time within your works pace to do meditation or stretches, or to simply remind yourself what is the actual reason for reaming in this situation – what are the positives, this will be act as depressurizing agent and help you regain the balance. You may think it is easier said than done, however with everything in life, it is a matter of priorities and balance and once you put yourself and your wellness into the highest priority, finding the tools to balance yourself will happen as a natural follow up.
