Winter Whispers: How The Frosty Breeze Takes A Toll On Your Tresses

Drinking enough water can cover the basic need of hydrating the body, while applying moisturising lotion regularly take care of the adverse impact of winter season on skin. However, hair need in-depth care and nourishment as the frosty breeze impacts them the most. All the summer fun that you had at the beach will now impact the hair by turning them dry, dull and brittle. Replenishing these lost nutrients should be your first priority.

Using hair oil once a week is a great way to strengthen hair and roots. Wash them off with harsh chemical free shampoo and have frizz and static free hair. Taking regular care of hair is essential. Have a hair cut every two to three months and get the split ends trimmed once in six or eight weeks. And if you love to flaunt gorgeous and stylish looks with hair colors then try to avoid harsh chemical based hair dyes and opt for natural, organic and vegan henna. For those of you who want a mess free experience, henna cream is available in the market that can give gorgeous hair colors like red, brown, chocolate, copper, burgundy apart from natural black.

For those who have colored hair, they need to take extra care. Using an after care shampoo and conditioner that is specially formulated for colored hair will help the hair color stay longer and also nourish and replenish nutrients. Make sure that it is free of PPD, DEA, TEA, EDTA, BHT, resorcinol, hydrogen peroxide, sulphate, synthetic perfume and parabens. Use a hair mask once a week to give more nutrients to the scalp and roots of the hair, thereby strengthening them and improving the hair quality should become a routine in winters.

During winter, take care to use either cold or lukewarm water to wash hair. Using hot water can open the hair follicles, which will destroy the natural keratin and lipid bonds of the hair cuticles. The ruptured cuticles can cause frizz, and increases hairfall. Thus avoid washing hair with hot water. Also avoid heat treatments for styling hair like curling tongs, hair straighteners or blow dryers. These weaken the hair structure in the long term, causing irreversible damage at times.

Winter is also the time when the biggest blunder you can do is to go out with wet hair. It can freeze the hair at the cuticles, and then weakens the roots leading to hairfall and breaking of hair. Thus always towel dry your hair before going out, and preferably tie them up in a pony. Also one should wear a scarf, as it will protect the hair from unnecessary pollution, dirt, and exposure to chilly winds that can lead to hair becoming brittle. Thus, a little care of the hair and including thoughtfully crafted vegan haircare products in daily life can lead to softer, healthier, shinier and bouncier hair that will make everyone go wow.
