Recognizing Health & Well-being At Workplace

Recent health and well-being reports even suggest that healthy employees have shown an increase in productivity and their mental well-being has led to an improvement in their creativity as well. And organisations always thrive hard to improve on these factors as it will eventually lead their profit graphs in an upward direction.

Organizations are now even offering on-site healthcare services along with stress-reducing activities and recreational activities to promote health and well-being among employees. Organizations like Google offers an all-encompassing wellness program featuring onsite healthcare services, including physicians, chiropractic, physical therapy, and massage services, as well as access to fitness centres, classes, and community bikes at their campus.

Also, Google employees can pick up and learn personal and professional skills by taking up cooking classes, coding degree programs, or guitar lessons at their campus. The search engine powerhouse also offers its workers with financial wellness resources, such as access to financial advisors and financial planning services. Not to mention, employees are granted flexible hours, vacation time, and volunteer time, helping employees achieve work-life balance.

Similarly, Microsoft believes it’s all about health. Microsoft offers education and resources for smoking cessation, weight management, and fitness training. Also, they fund gym memberships or fitness-related equipment and activity purchases for their employees along with free Zumba classes, onsite walking, and running tracks, basketball, volleyball, and baseball courts.

The ‘Microsoft cares employee assistance program’ offers free personal and family counselling, stress management, and referrals for child and elder care. Microsoft also has a mentorship program, employee source groups, networks, and social groups to build a sense of community.

For organizations, the health of employees being an important aspect is accompanied by the health and wellness of the consumers as well. Industrial giants have taken unique initiatives to promote health and well-being amongst their employees and customers.

For example, PepsiCo’s goal for its global beverage portfolio is to reduce two-thirds of the calories to 100 Calories or fewer from added sugars per 12-oz (355ml) serving. In 2017, 43% of beverages sold in its Top 10 markets have already met the goal.

From 2010 to 2017, through its initiative on hand washing, sanitation, oral health, self-esteem, and safe drinking water, Unilever reached to nearly 601 million people.

So, it is visible that the organizations have also been fulfilling their social responsibilities along with their personal objectives. The rising significance of health and well-being has made it clear that in the upcoming time, organizations will be more inclined towards the health and well-being of their employees as well as their customers.
