No matter how hard we care for our skin, sometimes, our skin is not protected enough from damage. Seeing damaged skin even after we ensure complete protection and follow the skincare routine diligently, we all think about where we went wrong. Well, the pollution that surrounds us might be the possible answer.
Studies have proved that people in polluted areas have inadequate skin hydration and poor skin barrier function. Air pollution and poor air quality negatively impact our skin and accumulate blackheads, whiteheads, comedones, acne, uneven skin tone, pigmentation, and premature aging. When the skin comes in direct contact with the pollutants and particulate matter, the skin barrier function gets disrupted, leading to oxidative stress and inflammation, increasing the chances of allergic skin conditions like eczema. Not only this, the exposure to pollution increases the degradation of our skin collagen and causes premature skin aging.
Some of the harmful effects of the pollution include:
1. Rips the skin off its natural oils.
2. Direct contact of skin with the dust clogs the pores, leading to acne and blackheads.
3. Pollution causes the skin to look dull and tired as it rids the skin of oxygen.
4. Pollution makes the skin rough.
5. Overexposure to sun, dust, and pollution causes tanning which does not disappear quickly.
You can protect your skin from the hazardous pollution by following these tips:
Sunscreen
Apply sunscreen whenever you go out in the sun from 12 pm to 4 pm. Another good option is carrying an umbrella or wearing a hat when you go out in the sun.
Moisturization
Don’t forget to moisturize your skin every night before sleeping.
Oil bath
Take an oil bath once a week to replenish your skin with its oils so that it does not become dry or dull over time.
Cover yourself
Try to wear clothes with maximum coverage while going out so that it shields you from the direct effect of pollution.
Make a homemade face pack
Mix shikakai Powder with chane ka Aatta and Haldi powder. Then, add water as required, and make a fine paste of it. Use it as a substitute for soap to have soft, glowing skin. This paste will not only exfoliate your skin but will also make you plump and beautiful.
Scrubbing
Use lukewarm water and scrub to wash your face after coming home to free your face from dust particles and dead skin cells.
Eat healthily and stay hydrated
Healthy foods will help to flush out the toxins from your system and keep your skin healthy.
