Festive season calls for celebrations with loved ones. But, at times we tend to eat from outside including sweets, fried and junk foods. This is why it is important to keep a check, especially during the festive season on what we are having by eating smart and balancing it out.
Below mentioned are a few tips to keep issues like bloating, burping, and indigestion at bay:
1. Don’t skip a meal: We often skip meals when we venture out for events, celebrations, and dinner outings. This can be counterproductive and lead to overeating that could have been easily avoided. It is recommended to eat guilt-free and follow a normal exercising routine on days you have to go out. Moreover, choose wisely what you eat when you are out. For desserts go for traditional sweets prepared at home.
2. Eat smart: It goes without saying that your health is in your hands. Though it is tempting to eat all the foods you get during the festivals, be mindful of your choices and rather pick up healthy foods laying at the food table. For instance, choose vegetables dipped in hummus or salsa instead of chips, and go for fruit pieces, sushi or a handful of nuts instead of all the fried foods.
3. Drink water instead of calories: Rather than having soft drinks, juice, or a soda, drink water. It will not only help you limit your calorie intake but also keep you stay hydrated during those eventful days.
4. Post-celebration rituals: Ensure you do not feel bloated, gassy, and uncomfortable after coming from dinner parties. If you do so then you need to consider some simple yet effective post-celebration rituals. After coming home have a glass of warm water before going to bed. To boost the digestion process, you can also have ginger, fennel, and ajwain tea.
5. Consider healthy swaps: Eat dishes based on whole grains like brown rice or wholegrain pasta with plenty of vegetables. Ask to swap fries for extra veggies or a salad. Consider having tomato or vegetable-based sauces over creamy and cheese-based ones.
6. Exercise for at least 30 minutes daily: It is difficult to hit the gym or do yoga during the festive season therefore, if not that then, try to go for a brisk walk or run. You can also do simple stretches at home. It will help burn those extra calories you consume.
