Recent research by the Bank of America Merrill Lynch brought out that Indians consume the most whiskey in the world. It was found that Indians drinks approximately 1.5 billion litres of whiskey every year.
The amount of whiskey India consumes is more than half of the world’s entire production. India was followed by the USA, France, and Japan with 462, 140, and 109 million litres respectively.

Although the reports are surprising as India is the second most populous country with more than 1.3 billion people, it comes to just more than a litre whiskey for an individual.
Considering only on the population factor, China, the most populous country in the world consumed just 17 litres of whiskey in a year. So, Indian consuming half of the world’s whisky can be related to our imperialistic behaviour which we inherited from the British colonial rule.
