Keeping Your Hair Healthy With Ayurvedic Solutions

Ayurveda is believed to be the culmination of knowledge received from physician to Gods. Dating back to more than 3000 years, this knowledge continues to be used to treat all sorts of big and small illnesses. In the past two centuries allopathic treatment became the favoured choice, however, problems that are deep rooted with confusing symptoms need Ayurvedic solutions as it treats not just the symptoms but also the root cause.

A lot of us complain about hair related issues. To get rid of problems like hairfall, scalp allergy, dandruff, rough and brittle hair, we usually use topical creams and shampoos that usually aren’t as effective. According to Ayurveda, our hair, nail and teeth are a by-product of the bone tissue and these tissues are intimately connected to the body. The hair, through the scalp is also connected to the nervous system and you would be surprised to know about the connection between hair and gut. So, any disbalance in any of these parts, your hair will be impacted. That is why it has been seen that we can have hairfall due to stress, not eating a balanced and nutritious diet, due to illness and also when we use a lot of chemical products directly on the hair, including heating procedures to style them.

So, according to Ayurveda, while dealing with any sort of hair related issues we need to consider the underlying causes and treat them. A healthy, well balanced diet with nutritious food is the first step of having a healthy body. Just this simple step can lead to locking the hairfall and also promoting hair re-growth. Practising yoga, especially pranayama which is easy to perform also impacts the body positively.

Let me tell you a little secret, which all of you might have heard about but don’t know its immense benefits, especially when it comes to haircare. Ashwagandha, the ‘Queen of herbs’ has uncountable hair benefits. It can immediately halt hairloss and speed up the regrowth process. One can take it orally as pills or powder mixed with tea. You can also apply it directly to your scalp and hair by turning the powder into a paste and keeping it on for about half hour. Another way to apply Ashwagandha is to mix it with shampoo or henna and keep it on as hair mask for as little as 15 minutes to see results. This hair growth promoter also repairs and prevents damage of follicles, scalp and hair tissue damage.

Reetha (Sapindus mukorossi) and shikakai (Senegalia rugata) are herbs that can be grinded and added to warm water to form a frothy, soapy product that can work like a shampoo to clean the hair. It cleanses the hair and scalp naturally, and helps to maintain the moisture of the hair strand. Keeping the hair and scalp clean is the key to keeping them healthy and shining. And this natural process to wash them is the right way to maintain perfect hair hygiene.

Henna is another herb that is considered to be the elixir for healthy hair, as it can provide much needed nutrients directly to the scalp that has been impacted heavily by using heat treatments, chemical based hair dyes and generally being careless. Ingredients like jua, malva, guarana, babassu oil rich in fatty acids, olive and coconut oil etc, sourced from Amazonian rainforests can aid the Ayurvedic ingredients to provide natural elasticity and prevent premature greying.

One can opt for ready to use henna cream that comes with easy to apply applicator for a mess free experience. It can be used to color the hair instead of harsh chemical-based hair dyes and can also be used as a hair mask, to be used once in 20 days. Furthermore, Ayurvedic solutions are void of ammonia or its by-products - ethanolamine, dietanolamine and triethanolamine.

Ayurveda offers plentiful of natural, organic and vegan hair care solutions. Understandably, it is time to dig in to your granny’s treasure box to get healthy and shiny hair.
