Festivals are bound to have fun filled food. Controlling your cravings for food in these festivities is not a small cup of tea. Along with having fun and happiness in this festive season we should not loose a track of our fitness goals. It usually happens that the mouth-watering festival food may interests us to forget about our health but maintaining a healthy balance where you not only take a good care of your diet but also give retreat to your taste buds is a must.
The festive seasons may tempt us with the delicious food and sweets like Laddoos, Gulab jamun, barfi, soan papdi, pakoras, paneer butter masala, butter naan and so on. I don’t suggest that eating delicious delicacies is harmful but mindful eating along with maintaining a dietary regime is recommended this festive season.
Some of the ideal ways to lose weight in this festive season are suggested below:
1. Follow Rainbow diet- When we think about healthy eating, we get confused about how a healthy plate looks like. So, here we can follow a rainbow diet, which means adding fruits and vegetables of different colours, that not only look good but has many nutrients such as protein, vitamin, minerals etc. in it.
2. Include nuts- Eating nuts regularly helps in weight loss. A research study was conducted on 8865 people for 28 months, where it was seen that people who ate one-two portions of nuts were at lower risk of weight gain as compared to others.
3. Try to avoid ready-made food- In this festive season, we tend to eat a lot of ready- made food from the markets. These foods are mostly stale and not good for health. So, controlling your desire to eat the ready- made food can help in weight loss.
4. Low fat food is advisable- The low-fat food such as green vegetables, yogurt, fruits, pulses, brown rice, whole grains etc. are advisable to keep you healthy. These kinds of foods are helpful to begin your dieting schedule for weight loss.
5. Divide portions of meals- It is always better to measure your food before eating. Don’t eat too much in one, instead divide your meals into 4-5 meals. Consider eating less amount and increase the frequency.
6. Stay Hydrated- Water is the biggest digestible source. Keep yourself hydrated throughout the day. It will give you more energy and help you in digesting the food you ate.
7. Mind and body relaxation- Our mind and our body are connected to each other. Therefore, to make your mind and your body fit, there is a need to provide relaxation. You can do meditation by listening to soft music, it will calm down your mind and body.
8. Exercise Regime- Maintaining an exercise regime is important for both mental and physical health. Giving at least 1 hr every day for physical exercises can help better in weight loss.
9. Mindful eating – Mindful eating is being aware of what to eat? why to eat? When to eat? & How to eat? If we consider these 4 factors, that means we are doing mindful eating which will eventually result in weight loss.
10. Proper Sleep- Sleep is a part of our routine, and if it doesn’t happen properly, it can result in restlessness through- out the day which will in turn effect our metabolism.
11. Maintaining a food journal- Always keep a food journal, whenever you are into weight loss routine, because it helps you in being aware of what to eat and what not to.
12. Stay positive- Positivity is a key to keep your mental and physical health fit. When you are positive about certain things, few hormones like serotonin, dopamine etc are released which spreads happiness and positivity in your body.
The festive season comes with lot of decluttering the untidy things from our home and decorating and cleaning it to celebrate with more piousness. Hence, the detoxification of your mind and body is also a mandate. It might seem difficult, but it is better to have “Pain of discipline” than “Pain of Regret”. Therefore, to conclude I would like to say - Think Nicely! Eat Wisely!
