In a new study, researchers suggest that crying can help in losing weight. The research was first published in Asiaone and backed its findings with scientific reasons.
It highlighted that humans start to lose weight because of the hormone ‘Cortisol’ which is released when eyes start to shed off tears as a result of weeping.
Further, the research advises people to cry between 7 P.M. and 10 P.M. as this period is the peak time for optimizing the cortisol releasing effect and hence aids in losing the extra gains. Also, the study stated that only the tears shed off as a result of an emotional trigger can help in the cause.
The study reported of three different kinds of tears, namely Basal, Reflex and Psychic tears. While Basal tears help in keeping our eyes moist, reflex tears are involuntary tears which the eye sheds due to smoke, or an unexpected contact of anything with the eye. The psychic tears are the result of emotional breakout and are the reason behind the release of cortisol.
In a similar line of study, prominent biochemist William Frey’s research earlier brought out that stress-induced tears might play a crucial role in removing various toxic substances from the body.
He also concluded with certifying weeping as an excretory process which aids in the removal of these substances produced in the body due to emotional stress.
The study motivates emotional people to release as many tears as they can as it will help in attaining mental well-being along with losing some extra kilos off the body.
