Each of the many seasons of the year has unique benefits for our bodies, thoughts, and moods. It can be considerably easier to wake up and leave the comfort of your bed during the summer mornings than it is during the winter.
Waking up and maintaining a disciplined routine may definitely seem to be more difficult especially when it comes to exercising. But, if you have made up your mind to improve yourself this winter, then here are some important steps you can take.
Build mindfulness
Mindfulness is the process of employing consciousness to interact with the present moment. Are you aware of your thoughts, emotions, bodily sensations, and the surroundings around you? It is recognised that mindfulness meditation can help you feel better mentally. Furthermore, your physical condition improves when you are psychologically well, resilient, and strong. Here are some strategies for promoting greater mental health by including mindfulness.
Stay Active – Surya Namaskar Practice
The Sun Salutation, also known as Surya Namaskar, consists of a total of 24 counts performed with 12 steps on each side. The Surya Namaskar starts with the right leg because it symbolises the Sun's energy, which is thought to be located in the right side of the body. To complete one full cycle, repeat the same twelve steps to the left. Begin with a minimum of 4-5 cycles and gradually increase it.
Start with subtle exercises such as Sukshma Vyayam. These involve carefully warming up the joints by gently rotating the neck, arms, wrists, hips, and ankles. Walk quickly while stretching and moving your muscles. This will get your body ready for practise and protect you from practice-related injuries.
The Siddha Walk Method
The siddha walk is performed by moving from south to north while tracing a figure eight. Walking in the shape of an 8 along this path from south to north will take 21 minutes. Once you have completed the required number of laps, you must turn around and walk for an additional 21 minutes from north to south.
Surya Bhedi Dhyan (Sun Channel Meditation)
The Surya Bhedi pranayama channelises the energies of surya or the Sun within you. It is the piercing of the Surya nadi, or the channelising of the surya nadi which helps you gain the power of the Sun. Your practice will trigger the Surya Nadi or sun channel within your body. The qualities of the sun-vigor, logic, the functionality of the body, strength and even your physicality, all gain power with this practice. For Surya Bhedi Shodan, right nostril is used for inhalation and left for exhalation. For Surya Bhedi Pranayama, inhalation is from the right and the right nostril is also used for exhalation.
Modify your diet for the winter
Root vegetables like carrots, potatoes, onions, garlic, radish, yams, sweet potatoes, beets, turnips, etc., and hearty winter greens like palak, methi, sarson, muli, pudina, etc., are the most warming veggies that are healthy for your body. In the winter, milk and other byproducts like yoghurt, cheese, etc. are excellent meal options. This is because they are loaded with calcium, proteins, and vitamins B12 and A, all of which improve one's health. The chilly season often affects the majority of people. You can lower your risk of getting sick by routinely drinking warm milk. Additionally, you can consume low-fat plain yoghurts to reduce your calorie intake.
