Ways To Take Care Of Your Skin This Summer

This season is a time when our hot beverages take a back seat and cold drinks and Lemonade becomes our go-to drinks, Our Umbrellas are out to protect us from the heat, synthetic and itchy clothes are a big no. We fill our homes and indulge in the best fruits for the season (especially mangoes) and none of us are willing to stay without an air conditioner even for a second. Yes my friends, we are talking about summer! Summer usually takes a toll on everyone’s skin. The heat, humidity and pollution take away all our natural glow and radiance. This is the season where oily skin gets oilier and dry skin gets patchy. To protect us from the inconvenience caused to our skin by the season, here are a few skincare tips for the season.

1. Live, laugh & wear sunscreen: Sunscreen should be our best friends for the season. Sunscreen is something we need to apply throughout the year but the summer season is when we need it the most. Sun & its rays can be harmful to our skin at all times but it is at its peak during summers because our exposure to UV rays increases. A minimum of 30 SPF is recommended (while stepping out or even when you are staying home). I personally feel sunscreen should be reapplied every 2-3 hours to ensure the best results and people, please don’t use the same sunscreen for years, it doesn’t last forever. Change your sunscreen bottles every 6-8 months and apply them all over your body equally. Sunscreen is magical, it can protect your skin from spotting and helps delay the fine lines and wrinkles. The type of your skin doesn’t matter, people with oily skin also must apply a gel-based sunscreen and people with oily or combination skin can apply moisturizing sunscreen or a cream finished one which gets absorbed in your skin and makes it easier for you to apply makeup on.

2. Less is more, opt for minimal makeup: minimal makeup throughout the year and Summers is a time when everyone should stop caking up their faces and go with the most minimal looks as possible as under the sun, less makeup looks the best. Use less foundation with powder with SPF to protect your skin from becoming patchy, I suggest you use lip balms or gloss and light shades of lip colours with SPF to look fresher and eye make-up can be avoided during summers.

3. Face care & exfoliation: Summer definitely asks for a different skincare regime, we need products that hydrate and help us keep it clean. It’s very important for all of us to make sure that our skin is clean of sweat and dust through these top months. A lot of people witness pimples and breakouts during summers and if you’re one of them make sure you splash cold water on your face at least 4-5 times a day (no need for a face wash every time, just cold, clean water also works). It is highly recommended to use exfoliation as a go-to method for the season to help keep our faces clean. Every skin type should use a scrub 2-3 times a week but which scrub depends on your skin type (ask your dermatologist). As we all believe in home remedies, people with oily/acne-prone skin to use Multani Mitti, Chandan and rose water whereas if you have dry skin, use curd, lemon, egg white and turmeric to protect your skin from the sun and have that healthy glow.

4. Don’t forget the rest of your body (eyes, feet and lips): Wear sunglasses at all times to protect the eyes from the sun’s harmful rays. Use a moisturizing under eye gel; and a lip balm with SPF under your lipstick. Scrub your feet to exfoliate. Apply sunscreen and moisturizer on your feet too, especially if you are wearing open-toed sandals.

5. Eat right Want truly fabulous skin: glowing, vibrant, and, yes, younger-looking skin? Make sure you're putting foods for healthy skin on your plate. I believe Everything you eat becomes a part of not only your inner being but the outer fabric of your body as well. The healthier the foods are that you consume, the better your skin will look. With food, skincare also plays a very important part in healthy skin. Include salads and vegetables like cucumber and lettuce in your food. This help the body stay cool from within. Seasonal fruits like watermelons, musk melons; citrus fruits and juices also help keep the skin healthy. The combination of the right food and right skincare is the key to glowing healthy skin.

6. Make water your bestie: Carry a water bottle everywhere you go and at least 8 glasses of water is needed for your body. It helps to keep you hydrated at all times and also helps wash out all the toxins.

7. Wear breathable fabrics: Cotton & Linen should be your go-to fabrics for the season. Light and loose clothing is ideal for the season and you should definitely avoid fitted and synthetic clothes as it increases discomfort and makes you sweat more.
