Yoga Day should be every day: Yog Expert Deepika Mehta

Yogini Deepika Mehta turned to yoga after a rock climbing accident. Doctors told her that she would never be able to walk again. Through sheer grit and the power of a yogic practice she today has a string of famous names under her belt who she has trained. From Katrina Kaif, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Priyanka Chopra and Deepika Padukone, to Bipasha Basu and Jacqueline Fernandez.

On the 21st and 22nd June, she will be on Tata Sky as part of a 48 hour Yoga marathon being done on Tata Sky Fitness. The telecast will have exclusive content of yoga training sessions from experts like Deepika Mehta, Sunaina Rekhi, Amrit Daswani and Shilpa Shetty as well.

She shared with BW Wellbeingworld that, "It’s incredible that there is a day for Yoga in India, but every day should be a yoga day not just once in a year.

Mehta said "I would advise people to let yoga become a consistent part of their life so that it becomes something that centres them, makes them calmer, decreases their stress and improve their quality of life"

Deepika practices Ashtanga Yoga 5 days a week. "When I am not travelling, I like to spend a day doing other forms of training, mostly strength training for my legs. What remains consistent is five days of yoga," she shared.

"Yoga has been an incredible form of exercise for my mental peace. I personally think that if you are really connected to it, any form of yoga can be your practice. Ashtanga Yoga is my practice. I encourage people to find something that resonates with them and makes them feel healthier," said Mehta.

She highlighted that "In today’s world finding a mindful practice is very important for people because we have so much distraction, technology and stress. There is so much competition in life that people feel a strong sense of pressure all the time. The technique of yoga gives you distance from the stress of your life and helps to calm your body and mind. Yoga is extremely important for a healthy life as it gives you a great sense of health and fitness."
